PRESS RELEASE

Slawson Exploration reaches agreement with federal regulators to improve air emission controls in Williston Basin Operations

DENVER, CO – Slawson Exploration Company, Inc. today announced an agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to improve emission control systems on its oil storage facilities in the Williston Basin in North Dakota. This agreement is not an admission of liability but instead represents a compromise with the EPA on areas of regulations we interpret differently. In accordance with the agreement, Slawson Exploration will evaluate, monitor, and report on the design, operation and maintenance of its storage tank systems.

“Through a cooperative effort with the federal government, we have reached an agreement to further reduce emissions from our operations in North Dakota,” said Todd Slawson, President of Slawson Exploration Company, Inc. “We take public health and environmental protection very seriously, which is why our company has been proactive in the evaluation of our oil and gas facilities and implemented a robust inspection and maintenance program well ahead of this announcement.”

Slawson Exploration agreed to reduce emissions in the Williston Basin. This includes the installation of automatic tank gauging equipment on a select number of tank storage systems. Slawson Exploration will also retrofit drilling rigs with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) equipment or utilize electric motors to reduce emissions from diesel engine exhaust.

A notice of the agreement between Slawson Exploration Company, Inc., and the EPA has been filed with the U.S. District Court in Bismarck, ND. The consent decree will be published in the Federal Register where a public comment period will follow for 30 days.
